News Republic of Congo aquaculture catfish breeding

In the context of our long-term project to support fish farmers in Congo with the French NGO IECD, COFAD has been undertaking several trainings at farm level to demonstrate the artificial reproduction of Clarias gariepinus for the fish farmers in the Kouilou region.

During a three-week mission of our technical advisors, farmers in several locations were taught how to successfully reproduce African catfish. COFAD initiated an exchange between experts from East Africa coming to Congo for meeting with local fish farmers and exchange knowledge and experiences. Our work on both sides of the African continent allows for synergies between the East and West, where the same species are reared (tilapia and catfish) and challenges are similar. Support material and training videos will be released to farmers after the complete nursery operations have been conducted. Read more
